Samsung Mobile joined Sprint, Intel and other partners of the Mobile WiMAX ecosystem in Baltimore on October 8 to celebrate the first official citywide launch of WiMAX in the U.S. Samsung Electronics SVP WS Kim helped Sprint CEO Dan Hesse and Intel CTO Sean Maloney in the ceremonial “cutting of the cord” at the ceremony. The launch event also included live demonstrations of Mobile WiMAX embedded laptops and PC cards onboard water taxis and buses. Baltimore will soon be joined by Washington DC, Dallas/Fort Worth and New York City as major metropolitan areas operating on Mobile WiMAX technology.

Dallas-based Samsung Telecommunications America (Samsung Mobile) was selected as the 2008 “Corporate Horizon” Award winner at the 7th annual Metroplex Technology Business Council (MTBC) Tech Titans Awards. The award honors the company that contributes best-in-class technology and corporate citizenship within the North Texas technology community.
